20 Interesting facts about Tigers


Tiger is a great animal with lots of interesting facts, but still human are poaching and bringing down the tiger population.


  1. Tigers have a white spot on the back of both ears, which lool like eyes. These spots called ‘eye spots’ trick predators into thinking that the tiger is looking at them, even when it is not!
  2. Pug marks can help to judge a tiger’s gender and age-even its weight and mood!
  3. Tigers can run with three legs in the ari simultaneously!
  4. A Buddhist temple in western Thailand called the ‘Tiger Temple’ keeps numerous animals, including several tigers that can be petted by visitors!
  5. Tiger can spend up to eightenn hours sleeping!
  6. Tigers have eyes that re the brightest of any other animal in the world.
  7. The tail give the tiger extra balance when running and is also used to communicate to other tigers.
  8. A tiger tail can be upto one-third of its total body length!
  9. Adult tigers have thirty teeth.
  10. If you were to shave a tiger’s fur, its skin would still have stripes!
  11. All tigers have similar markings on their forehead, which resembles the Chinese symbol Wang, meaning king.
  12. In 1972 the tiger was declared the national animal of India.
  13. Tigers are excellent swimmers and can swim upto 6.5 kilometers at a stretch.
  14. A tiger cub can gain 100 grams in weight per day.
  15. Over the course of her life, a female tiger will give birth to approximately equal number of male and female cubs!
  16. Almost all tigers have more than 100 stipes yet, no two tigers have the same pattern of stripes.
  17. No two tigers have same pug marks.
  18. Tigers roar can be heard from as far as 3km away!
  19. Tiger has jaws and teeth powerful enough to crush it prey’s backbone. Yet, the same teeth gently carry newborn cubs from one place to another.
  20. Tigers will occasionally eat vegetation for dietary fiber.
